Green Cubes Technology’s Lithium SAFEFlex Batteries: Greener, Cleaner, Meaner

Posted on May 6, 2019

After 150 years, real innovation is finally shaking up the industrial battery landscape.  Green Cubes Technology’s SAFEFlex lithium-ion batteries are environmentally friendlier, more energy efficient and save money when compared to traditional battery technologies.  The advancement of battery technology and diversification of the landscape is requiring decision makers to be more knowledgeable before they can confidently switch to newer, better energy sources.  To help with this education, we’d like to look at some of the claims made and how they measure up to what Green Cubes Technology can offer.

Claim: Lead-acid is highly recyclable.

It is true that lead is highly recyclable, however the unfortunate fact is that it is also highly toxic.  Employees who work extensively with lead products need periodic testing to make sure they are not being poisoned.  In addition, the environmental effects can be disastrous, damaging both ecosystems and water sources.  This toxicity has forced the federal government to require reporting (RCRA) of both lead and sulfuric acid levels present in the workplace while also requiring recycling of all lead-based products.

The recent closure of lead-recycling plant in Vernon, CA further confirms the problem with lead-acid batteries.  Dangerous lead levels were found in huge swaths of the surrounding area which included homes, schools, child care centers and parks.  This resulted in the largest cleanup of its kind in state history.[i]

This contrasts dramatically with Green Cubes Technology’s Lithium SAFEFlex batteries.  The lithium-ion chemistry used in these batteries is non-toxic and when fully discharged can safely be disposed of in a landfill.  Landfill disposal is unnecessary as the cells have such a long life that they can be repurposed into less demanding second life applications such as backup energy storage and peak shaving.  Finally, with technology evolving so quickly, the percentage of safely reclaimed and recyclable material for an end-of-life battery is increasing yearly.

Claim: All lithium-ion suppliers are the same.

The non-toxic and environmentally friendly aspects of Lithium SAFEFlex batteries contrast with many other lithium suppliers.  Our chosen lithium-ion chemistry does not contain cobalt, a known conflict mineral, or nickel.  Both elements are known to be toxic above certain levels and must be carefully handled at the end of life.

Claim: Lithium-ion is not energy efficiency.

The environmental and cost benefits of Lithium SAFEFlex batteries stretch further than the materials that make them.  The inherent chemical efficiencies mean the batteries use anywhere from 30-50% less energy when compared to lead-acid.  This reduces the cost of ownership further, as well as your carbon footprint.

The benefits are real, both to our end customers and the environment. If you’d like to learn more, please give us a call at +1 (502) 416-1060.

Customer Ratings and Reviews

Green Cubes is a great company, great engineers, great product. That’s been kind of my number one go to [lithium] battery.

President Industrial Power Company

The thing I like about Green Cubes is that they have other lines of business outside of material handling batteries, they have been in the lithium world for a long time. I can trust they will likely stay in business

VP Industrial Battery Company

Green Cubes [differentiates] on its capability to custom design for things like the hardware, the firmware, and inverters. They also have economies of scale because they make battery systems for things like forklifts.

VP Powered Cart OEM

I am doing some work with them right now. We’re learning their products, and looking at demos. They have good people. They seem like they know the technology well – they say they’re a technology company. I like that they’ve been in the lithium business a long time. I can trust they will likely stay in business.

Sales Manager Industrial Battery Company

Green Cubes Technology would be my go-to for lithium applications.

Branch Manager OEM

I’ve told my friends at Green Cubes, I don’t plan on going anywhere. I believe in loyalty.
